Considering the contributions and supports of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, J.P to the growth and development of Sports in Nigeria, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja has awarded him a special award of honour and recognition.
The award which was presented to Chief Ejidike at the closing ceremony of FCT SWAN Week 2022 was described as a way of recognising his numerous contributions to sports development in Nigeria and support for the FCT, Abuja chapter of SWAN.
The Chairman, FCT, Abuja SWAN, Comrade Ndubuisi Chidioka showered encomiums on Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike who for the past years donated and supported the Chapter even as he presented a giant trophy and cash donation to the association for the 2022 SWAN Week in Abuja.
The award, with the inscription : “Meritorious Award to CHIEF DONATUS AGU-EJIDIKE Nigeria Pillar of Sports. For your outstanding contributions in Nigeria’s Sports Development,” according to Chidioka was to encourage him to do more.
In his goodwill message, the Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike praised National body of SWAN who recognised his contribution and bestowed the coveted honour of Nigeria Pillar of Sports on him even as he pledged his continuous support for SWAN programmes at various levels and chapters.
Chief Ejidike described FCT, Abuja SWAN under the leadership of Ndubusi Chidioka as virile, focused and policy-oriented with various developmental programmes including the SWAN Week Games which single out the chapter as one of the best in the country.
“I am encouraged by your activities, programmes and sense of responsibilities particularly recognising; and, acknowledging contributions of sports enthusiasts. Your award to me will definitely spur and motivate me to do more. I, therefore, encourage other chapters of SWAN to borrow a leaf from FCT and attract philanthropist to promote sports in Nigeria.”
He also charged SWAN to reposition sports in Nigeria because the national teams and league leaders are not achieving the desired goals.
Ejidike admonished SWAN to close ranks and make the association a rallying point for sports policies and programmes.
He was accompanied to closing ceremony by the Chairman, Office of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Prince Olayioye Ajide even as other dignitaries like Sir Emeka Ofor’s wife, Mrs Adora Emeka Ofor and other philanthropists who witness the epoch making event.
