Federal Government Declares Monday, Tuesday, July 11, 12 As Public Holidays to Commemorate Democracy Day
To commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Federal Government has declared Monday, July 11th, and Tuesday, July 12th, 2022, as public holidays.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of the Interior, was the one who made the statement on behalf of the federal government, and he extended his congratulations to all Muslims and Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, on this occasion.
The declaration was made Thursday in Abuja in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore.
“I call on Muslims to continue to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, kindness, and sacrifice, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), and to also use this period to pray for peace, unity, prosperity, and the stability of the country, given the challenges of insecurity we face at the moment,” the minister said.
The Minister assured that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is “committed to the security of all Nigerians’ lives and properties, empowering citizens for successful living, the provision of social investment programmes, and adequate security in schools.”
While wishing Muslims a happy Eid-el Kabir, Aregbesola urged Nigerians to take responsibility by reporting any suspicious individuals or criminal activities they witnessed around them to law enforcement agencies using the N-Alerts application, which has been designed to mitigate security challenges with prompt response from security agencies: as soon as you “See Something Do N-Alerts,” especially during this festival.
He also urged Nigerians to be on the lookout for intruders in their communities. “As we celebrate this year’s festival, we must all take responsibility for the safety of lives and property,” he said.
“Aregbesola sought Nigerians’ indulgence to come together, put our heads, hearts, and all we have together, in order to achieve relative peace for harmonious coexistence and put an end to insecurity in Nigeria,” the statement continued.
He also assured Nigerians that the government would protect all citizens under the law, maintain law and order, and keep the peace in all situations.
