FIFPRO Steps In to Assist Nigeria’s Super Falcons in Bonuses Dispute

The International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO) has announced its commitment to support Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their ongoing dispute with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) concerning issues related to bonuses, camp allowances, and expenses. The Super Falcons’ preparation for the 2023 Women’s World Cup was marred by disagreements over outstanding payments owed to the players.

Following the team’s elimination from the tournament, FIFPRO issued a statement affirming their involvement in seeking resolution for the players. The organization expressed its dedication to ensuring that the contractual rights of the Super Falcons are respected and the pending payments are settled.

The FIFPRO statement read, “FIFPRO can confirm it is assisting players in a disagreement with the Nigeria Football Federation concerning bonus payments, camp allowances, and expenses, some of which date back to 2021.”

During the World Cup, the players had chosen to maintain their focus on performance without making public statements or inviting distractions. However, in light of recent developments, the Super Falcons have decided to escalate the matter and demand that the Nigeria Football Federation fulfill its obligations.

The frustration among the players stems from the need to continuously pursue the federation for payments, both before and during the tournament. This situation has cast a shadow over a critical period in the players’ careers.

FIFPRO’s intervention comes against the backdrop of FIFA’s commitment to safeguarding player remuneration and preventing any undue interference from the country’s football management. As the negotiations unfold, FIFPRO will collaborate closely with the Super Falcons to ensure that their rightful dues are honored and the outstanding payments are addressed.
