Foiled Terrorist Plot on Atiku Abubakar: PDP Raises Alarms Over Larger Conspiracy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep concern over the recently foiled terrorist attack on its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and other sensitive locations in Yola, Adamawa State.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja, the PDP raised suspicions that the foiled attack could be part of a larger plot aimed at disrupting its efforts to reclaim what they perceive as their “stolen” presidential mandate.

Ologunagba stated, “The PDP strongly believes that the arrested assailants were part of a sponsored attempt on the life of Atiku Abubakar, carried out by individuals who feel threatened by his determination to seek justice through the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in order to reclaim his mandate.”

“The intent of these sinister sponsors goes beyond targeting our Presidential Candidate; it seeks to instill fear in the hearts of innocent Nigerians and create chaos, confusion, and anarchy in the country,” he added.

The party also questioned whether the foiled attack in Yola, Adamawa State was linked to recent threats made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) about causing chaos and anarchy in the country if the PEPC upholds specific provisions of the Constitution regarding the declaration of a Presidential election winner.

“Could this be an orchestrated plan to create insecurity in Adamawa State, the home state of our Presidential Candidate, with the ultimate goal of justifying the imposition of a State of Emergency in the state and potentially extending it nationwide?” Ologunagba questioned.

The PDP called on the Inspector General of Police to thoroughly investigate the confession of the arrested assailants and track down their sponsors to ensure they face the full wrath of the law. The party emphasized that bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice was crucial for the security, unity, and wellbeing of the nation.

Furthermore, the PDP appealed to the Federal Government to take its duty and obligation to Nigerians and the international community seriously, urging them to ensure that the perpetrators and sponsors of the attempted attack are brought to justice. Given the scope and magnitude of the foiled attack, the investigation is considered of paramount importance.

In light of the incident, the PDP also called upon security agencies to reinforce security measures around Atiku Abubakar and his family during this critical phase of the democratic process.

The party expressed gratitude to the vigilant citizens of Yola, Adamawa State, and the security agencies for their collaborative efforts in thwarting the attack. Meanwhile, they encouraged all Nigerians to remain calm and vigilant as the authorities carry out a thorough investigation to apprehend those responsible for this sinister plot.
