The Senator that represented Anambra North Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2003 and 2005, Senator Obiajulu Anosike has called on Ndigbo to come together and forge a common political front if they must achieve the target of producing a President of Igbo extraction in 2023.
The veteran lawmaker who restated that power is not given but taken made the call while speaking to Journalists on a range of national issues at his country home, Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
Senator Anosike bemoaned the individualistic approach being adopted by Igbo political leaders on National issues, stating that while this only protects the selfish interests of these politicians, it will only make it difficult for the region to achieve a common united front in the political discourse in National issues.
He called on Ndigbo to sit together and plan how to win the Presidential election by ensuring proper coalition building within the region and with other regions of the country.
On restructuring, Senator Anosike traced the history, blaming the United central government of Nigeria’s first military Head of State, General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi which led to weak regions for being one of the basic foundations of Nigeria’s political structure today.
He, however, called on Governors to fully maximize the provisions made available to them under the concurrent list of the constitution to create wealth for their states before a new structure is put in place.
He stated that States have not fully maximized their internally generated revenue windows to boost their economic fortunes and create the level of security that will protect the life and property of residents.
On Anambra gubernatorial election, Senator Anosike decried the trend where moneybags who should think more of how to invest in building the State, instead all aspire to govern the State, thereby seeking to use the machineries of the State to protect themselves and their businesses.
On zoning the gubernatorial seat, He maintained that for the sake of equity, he supports that Anambra South produces the next governor but that the people of that zone must also show readiness and partnership with other zones to produce the next governor.
Senator Anosike concluded by commending Governor Willie Obiano for maintaining his pact with civil servants by ensuring regular payments of salaries and pensions and on time.
