Frank Lampard Urges Young Chelsea Side to Show Leadership in Champions League Clash with Real Madrid

Frank Lampard, the newly appointed Chelsea coach, has called on his young team to demonstrate leadership when they take on European champions Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League quarter-finals. Chelsea, who are currently 11th in the Premier League, have had a challenging season.

Ahead of the game on Wednesday, Lampard confirmed that N’Golo Kante, Thiago Silva, and Mason Mount will be available after recovering from injury issues. Lampard, who was one of Chelsea’s leaders in their victorious Champions League campaign in 2012, emphasized the importance of demonstrating leadership on the pitch.

“In (Enzo Fernandez) I see a leader, but he’s 22 years old. Games like tomorrow are great chance to perform and show that personality that makes you a proper leader,” Lampard told reporters on Tuesday.

Despite the parallels between his appointment and Roberto Di Matteo’s in 2012, Lampard stated that his situation is different in practice. Lampard has not spoken to Di Matteo ahead of the game against Real Madrid, who defeated Chelsea in the quarter-finals last season.

Chelsea will be seeking to avenge their loss to Madrid, who beat them 3-1 at Stamford Bridge before snatching a 3-2 victory at home to progress to the semi-finals. Lampard emphasized the quality of the opposition, saying that “we have to control what we can control, and understand the quality in the Real Madrid team.”
