Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo says horrible days await child traffickers and abusers still operating in the state.
Mrs Soludo who stated this in Awka while reacting to the recent arrest of a seventy-five-year old man who allegedly raped and impregnated a thirteen-year-old girl under his care in Awka.
According to the governor’s wife, who described the act as the height of moral debasement, the days are numbered for both traffickers and abusers who still think that Anambra State is a safe haven to ply their evil trade.
While noting that every step must be taken in the homes and general society, to protect women, children and the girl child, Mrs Soludo regretted that despite serious efforts to checkmate the immoral trends, cases are still cropping up.
She said that the recent case is just one out of many similar or related cases that have either been covered up or remain unreported as a result of social and psychological hindrances like fear, threats, stigma and patriarchy, and urged those who are going through any form of abuse to always report to appropriate authorities, assured that justice would be served.
She also urged those who have witnessed or have valid reports of abuses, especially those involving minors, to help authorities by identifying perpetrators.
The Anambra Governor’s wife, who commended the state’s Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, for always being proactive in dealing with related cases, promised that as a child rights advocate she would continue to offer support in ensuring that Anambra State is a safe home for women, children and girls to live in and reach their potentials.
