Anambra state Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has called on Nigeria Politicians to borrow a leaf from the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe patriotism.
Governor Soludo made the call during the 11th Zik Lecture Series at the ASUU Secretariat, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The event with the theme; “Nigeria In The Throas Of Insecurity Towards 2023: Any Panacea?” attracted dignitaries from within and outside Anambra state, including the incumbent Governor of Delta state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa who chaired the occasion, a Constitutional Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, Dr Mike Ozekhome, the 11th guest lecturer of the Zik Lecture Series, Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Nnameka Achebe, among others.
Professor Chukwuma Soludo who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim described late Dr Azikiwe as a great Igbo son and true Nigerian who throughout his life toiled for the unity, peace, and all round wellbeing of the country, and believed solely in one Nigeria, saying that Nigerians should emulate his love for the nation.
Governor Soludo noted that among Anambra state government’s efforts towards continuous remembrance of the numerous contributions of the late Dr Azikiwe in nation building, is the declaration of the yearly November 16th public holiday, among other things.
Earlier in an address, the Chairman on the Occasion, Senator Okowa while commending the organizers of the Zik Lecture Series, called on federal government of Nigeria to tackle issues of insecurity in the country including incessant farmers and herders crisis, for progress, peace and food security in Nigeria.
In a remark, the Zik Lecture Series Benefactor, Senator Ben Ndị Obi while regretting the carelessness of Nigerian government in the education sector, pointed out that no serious nation desirous of growth will halt academic proceeding for eight good months as done by Nigeria recently, an act he said is an invitation to both political and economic anarchy, calling on the Buhari led administration to pay the university lecturers their full salary without further delay as the nation cannot afford another strike at this time.
Senator Obi further called on the federal government to declare a special day for national honour to the late Zik of Africa whom he said spearheaded the Nigeria’s independence.
