The Elite Youths of Anam Foundation, EYAF, has paid the sum of six hundred and forty thousand naira as registration fee of thirty two candidates for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, WASSCE.
Four candidates each were selected from the eight communities in Anam.
The foundation also gave out the sum of one million, four hundred and forty thousand naira as interest free loans to seventy-two indigent widows; nine widows each from the eight communities in Anam.
The foundation made the presentation of candidates and schools for the registration as well as the disbursement of the interest free loan during its Elites’ summit 2022, held in Umueze Anam.
Elite Youths foundation of Anam was founded in 2016 with programmes and projects toward the development of the youths to render services to God and humanity, educating and transforming the youths in view of becoming excellent leaders with high sense or responsibility, integrity and moral standard.
The theme for the Annual summit is ‘participatory governance: a means to stable community development in Anam’.
In his keynote speech, the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Honourable Tonycollins Nwabunwanne called on Ndi Anam to make participation in governance at all levels a priority in order to help build an informed community which in turn will produce good leaders and followers.
The Commissioner who spoke through the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra West Local Government Area, Honorable Felix Ikechi, reminded ndi Anam that participation in governance in a democratic society is open to every eligible adult citizens adding that Ndi Anam before now are known for participation in governance that has resulted in huge development in the past.
Commissioner Nwabunwanne who revealed that urgent steps like fumigation of schools in the communities of local government area, and immediate solutions to devastated roads caused by floods as approved by Governor Soludo will be taken place soonest to alleviate their plights, thanked the foundation for the summit, urging people to get their Permanent Voter Cards ready to elect good leaders and remove the bad ones.
In a paper presentation by the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, Dr. Anslem Onuorah, titled ‘building a new system before this current system destroys us” revealed that the current situation in which the world exist is quite challenging but asked the people to begin to make better policies that will change the society for good.
In another presentation, titled ‘Stable Community Security in Anam Issues and Models’, Reverend Emmanuel Nze, asked the community to consider security as crucial element for stable development.
In his address, the President of the Foundation, Mr. Christopher Anekwe who maintained that the summit offers opportunity to unfold a new direction to face challenges confronting the community, called on Governor Soludo for more intervention to the community and appealed for yam seedlings and cassava stems to be given to them for this year’s planting season which he said would alleviate the financial constraints and suffering of farmers, and by extension eliminate hunger and ensure continuous food supply in the state through 2023 and beyond.
Mr. Anekwe who disclosed that the foundation paid the WAEC registration fee to assist parents and promote education, added that the interest free loans were to assist the widows instead of them borrowing and paying back double, while pledging to register one hundred and twenty pupils for First School Leaving Certificate.
In a remark by the Chairman Summit Planning Committee, Engineer Francis Edoziuno, represented by the secretary planning committee, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwakor, the foundation is poised to develop, transform and uplift the community through the promotion of education, community development projects and services, as well as enlightenment and reorientation campaigns adding that the annual summit has come a long way and significantly impacted the community positively over the past few years.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Master Chukwuemeka Fidelis, thanked the foundation and promised to study well for their wellbeing.
