The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has explained how Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election. Fashola stated that the three major opposition candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), helped Tinubu win by refusing to form an alliance ahead of the election.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Fashola pointed out that the inconsistencies within the PDP made it easier for Tinubu to win the election. He noted that the three opposition candidates had split from the PDP after the 2019 presidential election, making it impossible for them to add up their votes in the 2023 polls.
Fashola also mentioned that the APC was adding and multiplying, while the PDP was dividing and subtracting. He pointed out that some PDP governors, including those from Cross River, Ebonyi, and Zamfara, had joined the APC. Fashola said that the opposition candidates handed the presidential ticket to Tinubu by dividing their powers, making it impossible for them to win the election.
