ICRITR Launches Nigeria’s First Master’s Programme in International Trade and Policy Law

The International Centre for Regional Integration and Trade Research (ICRITR) has officially commenced orientation for the second cohort of students enrolled in its Master’s Degree and Postgraduate Diploma programmes in International Trade and Policy Law, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s higher education and trade policy development. The orientation was held online on 7 February 2026.

The programme, described as the first of its kind in Nigeria, is designed to provide advanced and specialised training in international trade law, economics and policy. It adopts a fully online delivery model using Zoom, allowing working professionals and students across the country and beyond to participate without physical constraints. Teaching activities are spread across four semesters and include interactive lectures, seminars, presentations and revision sessions.

ICRITR’s programme is further strengthened by strategic collaborations with leading international institutions, including the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). Through these partnerships, faculty members from the WTO and other international experts are scheduled to deliver guest lectures, exposing students to global best practices and contemporary trade issues.

Academically, students are required to undergo rigorous interdisciplinary training, with assessments based on class participation, seminars, examinations and research output. The programme culminates in the submission of a thesis or dissertation, in line with international postgraduate standards.

To ensure a smooth learning experience, ICRITR has put in place a robust student support system, including ICT assistance, career services and administrative guidance. A flexible two-installment payment structure has also been introduced to ease financial planning for students.

The centre noted that the programme is aimed at developing local expertise capable of addressing Nigeria’s trade challenges, strengthening regional integration efforts and enhancing the country’s participation in the global trading system.
