A non-governmental organization, Illicit Drug Abuse Education in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA have organized training for National Youth Service Corps members to be empowered to sensitize the public on the dangers of hard drugs.
The Corps members were selected from the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC’s Community Development Service, CDS, group of the NYSC.
The training is aimed at educating and enlightening the Corp members and Public on the dangers and consequences of drug abuse.
Declaring the program opened, the Anambra State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi who spoke through the Sector Command’s Route Commander, Mr. Uche Ogbonna appreciated the team for organising the lecture, as it is part of the crusade of the command in the transport sector, hoping that it will result in sensitizing drivers on the dangers of drug abuse.
He advised the Corps members and the state citizenry to adhere to the message against drug abuse.
The Chairman, Illicit Drug Abuse Education, Mr. Gregory Anene, when listing alcohol, marijuana, tramadol, monkey tail, rubber solution and other forms of stimulants as some of the deadly drugs that is wildly abused, counselled the public to stay away from drugs and its attendant risks.
He appealed to the state Government to continue to lend support to the Agency in order to ensure full eradication of the ugly trend that is increasingly overtaking the society.
President of the CDS group, Mr. Emmanuel Iloegbu while saying that the exercise is to help create more awareness on the dangers of illicit drugs abuse, said the campaign was aimed at equipping the CDS group with more facts to carry out their services to the members of their various host communities.
