I’ll Conduct Council Elections Within Six Months – Chris Azubogu

By Tai Emeka Obasi

One of the greatest rapes of democracy is for any state to operate a government without elected local government council. It not only derails real democratic practice but also makes a complete mess of the local government system, which is the machinery that conveys development to the grassroots.

Many states in the country are guilty of this very anomaly. However, Engr Chris Emeka Azubogu has promised repeatedly that his government, if elected and sworn in on March 17, 2022, will remove Anambra State from this embarrassing list within six months.

Yesterday in Ihiala and Ozubulu, the federal lawmaker representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Constituency reiterated that promise in more empathetic fashion.

“I have voted three good times in the National Assembly for autonomy to all local governments in the country. I strongly believe in it and will have an elected council in all the 21 LGAs of the state within six months of swearing in. All 326 ward councillors will be involved in government with full democratic rights as authentic representatives of the people,” he affirmed.

The man fondly called Mr Project was continuing his local government tour of notification of interest to run for the gubernatorial race of November 6 general election. Yesterday, February 1, was the turn of Ihiala and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas.

Addressing all the 18 LGA party executives, 17 ward executives of all the 20 and 12 wards respectively and stakeholders from all the wards, Hon Azubogu emphasised that he is interested in his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP taking over governance come March of 2022.

“I’m not here to see just delegates. I’m here to see the party because there’s great work to be done by everyone of us if we truly desire to get back to Agu Awka Government House. You’re the party. You’re to drive membership and you must get going from this very moment. We can’t wait until after primaries because the work is quite enormous.

“I’m not just going to have a Chris Azubogu government. I am calling for a PDP government where everyone, from councillors to commissioners will be fully involved in moving our state forward in all indices of development. There’s huge quantity of gas in Ihiala which will contribute immensely to our blueprint on Gas Infrastructure. There are huge farm lands in Ihiala that will contribute greatly to our plans regarding Agriculture. There are enough campuses of tertiary institutions in Ihiala that will benefit from our skill-based educational curriculum that will produce desirable graduates to our grand plan of industrial revolution in the state,” he continued.

He said more – all pointing to the fact that this is indeed a dedicated party man very prepared to serve.

The tour continues today.
