The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says its efforts at ensuring voters assess to voting points is hinged on her desire to enthrone a free and credible election.
The Chairman, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this while declaring open a training for Heads of Electoral Operations Department on implementation of Voter Access to Polling Units in Abuja.
The Chairman who was represented by thepo Chairman, Electoral Oprations, Professor Okechukwu Ibeana, said the essence of the meeting was to X-ray the electoral guidelines and brainstorm on the best approach to getting it right.
He said that the ultimate challenge for the electoral umpire is how to ensure safety of its workers and that of the electorate; this he says the Commission plans on doing through relocation of inaccessible polling units to locations closer for voters.
The Director Electoral Operations, A.T Yusuf on his part, urged participants to be attentive so as to take back what they learnt to their various states for easier implementation.
In an interview, the Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Barrister Festus Okoye, said many benefits abound in making voting points accessible for voters hence the Commission is dogged in its efforts this happens before the twenty twenty three general elections.
Also, the Head of electoral Operations Department in Anambra State, said INEC in the state, had begun preparations for the November sixth governorship election in earnest.
