Insecurity: Igwe Orizu Cup put on hold

 

Following the Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo’s announcement on restriction of movement, curfew, ban of Okada, tricycle and buses in Aguata, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Ogbaru South, until further notice, the Main Organising Committee, MOC of Igwe Orizu U-20 Cup competition has declided that the competition be put on hold until the security situation improves.

In a statement by the MOC Chairman, Sir Israel Okonkwo (IC.Okos) and Secretary, Prince Olayioye Shola Ajide, security of lives of players, officials and invited guests cannot be jeopardized or risked;. hence the need to postpone the championship.

The MOC disclosed that Igwe Orizu, Kenneth Orizu and members of the Igwe Cabinet have been consulted before taken the all-important decision.

” The Igwe Orizu competition is expected to kick off on Saturday, June 4, 2022 and all the 24 participating clubs are eager to trade tackles but for the ugly and incessant killings and attacks which had gone unabated, the MOC had no choice than to put it on hold. We regret the inconveniences and lost this development may have caused the clubs and football lovers in Anambra State. However, it was taken in the interest of all.”

The statement added that when the atmosphere is condusive and the coast is clear, the Igwe Orizu Cup shall be staged.

It would be recalled that the competition was powered by the Nigerian Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, J,P with partnership from Anambra State YSFON and Igwe Orizu Cabinet.
