Insecurity: Soludo Calls for Collaboration


The governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo has called for a more collaborative synergy from the general public in the state government’s fight against insecurity which he said, is a huge clog in the wheels of development of the state.

Governor soludo made the call on Tuesday at the hallowed Chambers of the Anambra State House of Assembly in Awka during the valedictory session organized by the legislative arm of government in the state in honour of one of their members, Hon. Dr Okechukwu Okoye (Okey Di Okay) who was abducted and gruesomely murdered by some unscrupulous elements that are threating the peace in the state.

Speaking through his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the governor while commeserating with the legislators as well as the young family of the slain lawmaker, asserted that Hon. Okechukwu Okoye who until his heart-wrenching death, was representing Aguata 2 Constituency in the house of assembly, made worthy contributions on the short time he stayed in the assembly geared towards the development of the state. He decried the way and manner of the gruesome murder of the gentleman lawmaker and the insecurity challenges that have bedeviled the country in every zone, asserting that the recent torrents of criminal vices witnessed in some parts of the state is novel to the state as Ndi Anambra have always been known and identified by their peace-loving and industrious nature.

The governor who maintained that the death of Okey Di Okay dealt a heavy blow to him, the people of Aguata and indeed the generality of Ndi Anambra, stressed that his government is not leaving any stone unturned towards unraveling the masterminds of the dastardly act whom he said must be brought to book, and called for support from every law-abiding indigene of Anambra in the fight to rid the state off of the criminal elements that are causing mayhem in the state.

He said that the state government fight against the criminal enterprise in the state is already yielding the desired fruits as relative peace in being returned in the state and charged the lawmakers to strengthen the institution of government by encating or amending existing laws geared towards the insurance of the wellfare of the people.

Earlier, the members of the state house of assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor, PhD, while presenting their tributes described the late Hon. Okechukwu Okoye as one of the finest, outspoken and well-articulated lawmakers produced by the 7th Assembly. They eulogized his personality, his mastery of the rules of the house as well as his disposition to issues in the hallowed chambers which they said, distinguished him from the rest of the lawmakers, describing him as a selfless politician and a devout Christian to the core which was evidential to his way of life.

Describing his death as shocking and very painful, the lawmakers consoled with the governor of the state who hails from the same constituency with the slain lawmaker, the family he left behind, the Aguata people and indeed the generality of Ndi Anambra.

Other top government functionaries that joined the members of the 7th Assembly in paying tribute to late Hon. Okechukwu Okoye included the Chief Judge of Anambra State, His Lordship, Hon. Justice O.M. Anyachebelu; former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Hon. Justice Uju Nwogu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on National/State Assembly Matters, Rt. Hon. Anayo Nnebe; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Development, Hon. Dr Nelson Omenugha.

Others are Engr. Dom Okafor, some past members of the state assembly, some leaders of thought in Isuofia community, amongst others
