International Day of Peace: Group Mounts Peace Pole In Awka

The Peace Network and Culture Initiative, PENACIN, has mounted its second peace pole in Awka, Anambra State, in commemoration of the International Day of Peace celebrated last Wednesday September 21, 2022

The PENACIN, a branch of the Women Centre for Self Empowerment and Development, WOCSED, is a non-governmental organization that raises awareness on the importance of value reorientation and the use of peaceful conflict resolution methods.

Mrs Onyeka Obi, National President of PENACIN, said during the unveiling that the peace pole is seen as a way of bringing people together to inspire, awaken, and uplift the human consciousness.

According to Mrs. Obi, the peace pole, which was first mounted in Enugu State, is now recognized as the most prominent International symbol and monument of peace, reminding people to speak and act in a spirit of peace and harmony.

Declaring the event open, Dr Kelvin Freeman, a pastor at Dominion City Church, advocated for peace and security in Anambra State and the world at large, saying that the International Day of Peace, with this year’s theme “End racism; build peace,” is a call to end all forms of conflicts and discrimination in order to ensure a peaceful environment.

Also, Dr Nkechi Udeze, the Director, Anambra State Library Service and a member of the Board of Trustees of PENACIN, commended the effort of the NGO towards fostering peace in the society.

She recognized the essence of peace in the world and prayed for its sustenance.

The peace pole is captioned “May Peace Prevail in Anambra State”.
