In a successful operation, joint security forces attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Anambra State displayed their commitment to sustaining safety in the region. On the 11th of July 2023, at approximately 8:30 pm, while conducting patrols along the Uga-Ezinifite Expressway, the security operatives encountered two suspicious vehicles attempting to evade security screening. A highlander jeep and a white Lexus 350 without a license plate were pursued by the joint forces, leading to a heated gun battle.
In their bid to escape, the criminal gang abandoned the two vehicles and fled on foot. Subsequent searches of the abandoned vehicles uncovered two automatic pump-action guns, eleven live cartridges, and a bag containing a walkie-talkie, a cell phone, and other incriminating items. Bloodstains found inside the vehicles indicated that the gang members had sustained bullet wounds during the engagement. The Anambra State Police Command urges public and private hospitals to report any individuals seeking treatment for bullet wounds or related injuries to the nearest police station.
In a related incident later on the same day, at approximately 8:13 pm, the police, in collaboration with Anambra State Vigilantes, successfully rescued a kidnap victim and neutralized two members of the notorious gang. This operation took place at Ichida bus stop along the Ichida-Igboukwu expressway. As a result, an Ak47 rifle, two pump-action guns, two Ak47 magazines, thirty-two live ammunition, and the victim’s highlander jeep were recovered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang, consisting of eight individuals, had employed two vehicles, a grey Highlander jeep, and a white Lexus 350, to abduct the victim, who was traveling in her Ash Highlander jeep. Fortunately, the victim was rescued unharmed and has provided crucial information to assist further inquiries.
In response to these incidents, Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye warned criminals operating in Anambra State to reconsider their actions and seek legitimate means of survival. The Commissioner emphasized that the state government provides opportunities for lawful engagement, and those involved in criminal and illegal activities would face severe consequences.
