- Says Significant Investment In Education Required For Realization of Sustainable Development Goals
The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, has stated that significant investment in education remains one of the surest ways in the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals. She said that the 2030 agenda for sustainable development may not be attained in developing countries like Nigeria if little or no attention is given to the education sector.
Ekwunife, who made this call on Thursday, February 11, 2021, while speaking to the press following the tour of inspection visit to St. Michael’s Model Comprehensive Secondary School, Nimo, Njikoka LGA where she attracted the reconstruction of classroom block vowed that her government will invest massively in education if given the mandate.
Welcoming the Senator who was represented by the Anambra central project monitoring committee led by Lady Henrietta Agbata, the Principal/Manager of the school, Rev. Fr. Dennis Nwabueze on behalf of the school management thanked Ekwunife for prioritizing education, saying that the Senator has written her name in gold in the history of the school. He extolled Ekwunife for through her special interventions remembering the great school that has produced many great personalities in the country.
Reminiscing, Fr. Nwabueze recalled the deeds of Ekwunife most especially the construction of the road that pass through the school. He said that both the management and students’ would continue to pray for the leading guber aspirant under PDP as well as support her in all her endeavours.
“We thank God that our dear distinguished Senator is remembering our school. This school seems to be forgotten following the expiration of the tenure of HE Peter Obi”

In his remarks, HRH Igwe Maxi Ike Oliobi (Owelle Nimo) extolled the woman better known as Iyom for the educational project in Nimo, describing her as a woman of substance who has the interest of the people at heart. He said that long after our sojourns on earth that only our deeds would speak for us and that Ekwunife needs to be emulated by other representatives because she has performed very well thus far on the floor of the senate.
Speaking further, the monarch said that he was sure that if given the mandate that Ekwunife would transform the state. The traditional ruler, on behalf of Igwe-in-council, the entire Nimo community and his family expressed gratitude to Ekwunife and assured of the community continuous support in her political aspirations.
Meanwhile, the woman leader of the community, Dr. Lady Josephine Ilokanuno highly praised Ekwunife for her investment in education. She said that, the Senator is a role model to every hard working woman. She stated that the capacity of Ekwunife for quality representation has never been in doubt. While praying for Iyom she said that she was sure that all facets of government would improve if Ekwunife becomes the next governor.
Similarly, the PDP Chairman of Njikoka LGA said that he was happy with the progress of the work. He described Ekwunife as a woman of rare personality. Mr. Chibueze Anaeto bore witness to the giant strides of Ekwunife and noted that the Senator’s personality was what was needed in leadership positions.
In their speeches, Chiefs Ken Awagu and Ugochukwu Ezennia who are PDP stakeholders described Ekwunife as an achiever, goal-getter and wonderful Senator. The duo said that the Igbo-Ukwu-born Senator has performed so well in the 9th Assembly and prayed God that Ekwunife becomes the next governor of the state.
Concluding, the Senior Prefect of the school, Emmanuel Afuba in the stead of the entire students’ thanked Ekwunife whom he described as an Amazon of our time. He said that Ekwunife has touched too many lives on earth. Master Afuba said that the ongoing project would be beneficial to the students and the society. “For our representatives and well-to-do individuals who remember the students through education investments they would someday benefit from us”, he noted.
Recall that the Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology also earlier during the day visited Community Secondary School, Uke where she inspected the administrative block construction project she attracted to the school.
