Lionel Messi Aims to Savor Every Moment of His Career, No Set Retirement Plans

Renowned footballer Lionel Messi expressed his intention to relish every moment of the remainder of his illustrious career, without setting a specific retirement date. The Argentine World Cup champion recently secured his first title with his new club, Inter Miami, in the Leagues Cup final, marking his 10th goal in seven matches since joining the Florida-based team.

Despite recently signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with Inter Miami, the 36-year-old star emphasized that he has not contemplated his future beyond this agreement. In an interview with Apple TV+, Messi conveyed his passion for playing, training, and competing on the field, indicating that he hasn’t set a definitive timeframe for his retirement.

“I’m not thinking about it (retirement) yet, to be honest. I like to play, I enjoy being with a ball on the field, competing, training,” he stated during the interview.

Messi, who has claimed the prestigious Ballon d’Or award seven times, acknowledged that he doesn’t know how much longer he’ll continue playing, but he intends to make the most of his time while he’s physically able. He emphasized the importance of cherishing each moment, highlighting that the present cannot be relived, and he doesn’t want to have any regrets in the future.

Reflecting on his experience with Inter Miami, Messi expressed his satisfaction with his decision to join the club after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain concluded. He compared the move to returning to the atmosphere of his Barcelona days, emphasizing the significance of enjoying family life and the sport itself.

Messi elaborated on the decision to sign with Inter Miami, describing it as a choice that prioritized the well-being of his family. He revealed that challenging times during his stint at Paris Saint-Germain led to this move, aiming to replicate the happiness he experienced during his time with the national team.

Looking back, Messi affirmed that the decision to join Inter Miami was indeed the right one. He attributed the positive experience to his renewed sense of enjoyment, which had been missing during his time in France.

As he prepared for the U.S. Open Cup semi-final against Cincinnati, Messi’s words highlighted his commitment to embracing the present and pursuing joy in both his personal and professional life.
