MACSA UNIBEN Holds Its Freshers Orientation/Welcome Ceremony

… Students advised to be studious, prayerful and also learn digital skills

100 level students of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Benin have been urged to be studious and respect constituted authority while on campus.
The call was made by the head of the department, Mass Communication Dr. Festus Olise during the department’s freshers orientation and welcome ceremony on Monday at the Part-time Hall Ekewan campus of the institution.
The Head of Department congratulated the students for scaling through the rigorous selection process for admission into the university describing the institution as one of the most sought-after tertiary institutions in the country. He expressed hope that the students would sustain this widely acknowledged tradition of academic and dressing excellence that has made the department outstanding.
Dr. Oliseh commended the University Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami,  for the giant strides and development projects notable among them are the provision of 24 hours electricity on campus, renovation of the department’s old library, and the construction of an ultra-modern lecture hall.
He charged the students to always read, research and review, adding that the significance of the orientation ceremony should guide their conduct throughout their stay on campus.
In the same vein, a profound lecturer in the department, Mr. Sunday Ekerikevwe popularly known as SunnyLove emphasized that the event is a special one for all the 100Level students of the department. He advised the students to take their studies seriously in order to have a great career stating that “There is no limit to where you can find yourself tomorrow, only if you are sound and profound.”
The Student Union Government President, Comr. Lotanna Egwu Benjamin advised the students to focus on the main aim why they are on campus which is to study. He reminded them that it is remaining only a few weeks to the second semester examinations and charged them to commence studies immediately.
On his part, the Special Guest, BBC Correspondent, and a former President of the Association, Jegede Joseph intimated the students on the need to learn digital skills, be prayerful and also join in other campus activities. He stressed the need for students to develop passion for what they do.
The President of the Association, Oluwatosin Adepoju Adewale assured the students of the unflinching support of his administration in ensuring the students have a wonderful and successful stay on campus.
Highlights of the event include cutting of cake, dance competition, drama presentation, spoken words, and talk show.
Also present were Student Leaders and Executives of the association, who congratulated the students and expressed their full support to make their stay a memorable one.
