March 18: Rascality of Gov Soludo’s SA, Ben Chiobi using Soldiers led by LT Godo Yusuf to harass & intimidate Voters in Abagana

The March 18 State Assembly elections may have come and gone but the report of post-election activities will linger for some time as various irregularities surrounding the elections continue to raise dust.

According to INEC rules and guidelines for Security Officials’ engagement in Electoral Duties, except on contingency plans or an emergency, no individual is allowed to move from one polling unit to the other with police escort talk more of using a military escort on an election day.

The IGP also ahead of the 2023 general elections ordered restrictions on the use of Police Escort and reaffirmed the ban on VIP Escort and the use of state security outfits on election day.

Unfortunately, during the last Saturday State House of Assembly elections held on  18th March 2023 in Njikoka Constituency 2, Retired AVM Ben Chiobi, an SA to Governor Soludo, was all over various polling units in Abagana with military officers led by one Lt. Godo Yusuf Olatunji,  beating, harassing and intimidating voters at various polling units in Abagana on the orders of Ben Chiobi.

It was also captured on various video clips at Ward 3 006 Aro-ochiagha square where Retired AVM Ben Chiobi stormed the polling unit with military officers, ordering the arrest, beating and flogging of party agents perceived to be Labour Party agents who insisted that voters must not be allowed to display their ballot papers after voting.

Investigations also revealed that the military officers were on illegal duty and had no name tags on their military uniforms. It was also gathered that Retired AVM Ben Chiobi instructed his party agents to do anything to ensure apga wins all polling booths in Abagana and to call him if they receive any resistance from anybody including INEC officials, police or party agents, thereby blatantly flawing INEC rules and a total disregard to the orders of the Inspector General Of Police (IGP).

Many of the agents beaten by the military officers on the orders and directives of AVM  Ben Chiobi sustained various degrees of injuries and are still receiving medical attention and the traumatic experience is inexplicable.

It’s pathetically sad that onye Abagana will order the arrest, harassment and beating of ndi Abagana by military officers in an election in Abagana in total disregard to INEC rules and an affront to the orders of the Inspector General Of Police.

Abagana Concerned Citizens have raised alarm and petition forwarded to the relevant authorities.
