Moghalu Dismisses Court Order as Joke, Says Opponents Fear His Acceptance

Dr. George Moghalu

Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Anambra State, Dr. George Moghalu, has dismissed reports that a court restrained him from parading himself as the party’s flagbearer in the forthcoming November 8, 2025 governorship election.

Social media was awash on Tuesday with claims that the Federal High Court sitting in Enugu had barred Moghalu from holding himself out as the Labour Party (LP) candidate.

Addressing journalists in Awka, Moghalu described the reports as “a joke and dead on arrival,” insisting that they were the handiwork of political opponents who were unsettled by his growing popularity and acceptance among Ndi Anambra.

“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have bothered myself talking about social media speculations as a matter of personal policy. But because of the sensitivity of the matter and the need to do certain clarification, it became necessary I speak to douse tension,” he said.

According to Moghalu, the court order was deliberately misrepresented to cause confusion. He explained that while the applicants had sought several prayers—including restraining him from parading as LP candidate and asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognize his nomination—the court denied all except a substituted service.

“The last paragraph of the court order clearly states that all other prayers are hereby denied, while the applicants are directed to place all respondents on notice. The order also directed that all parties maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. And the status quo is that Moghalu won the primary and was declared by INEC as LP candidate,” Moghalu clarified.

He accused his detractors of attempting to distract him through propaganda, but maintained that such efforts were bound to fail.

“Like I said, we know the source of this and those who procure them. They’re only justifying the pay. I wish them well because it’s an exercise in futility. I repeat, let them leave me alone and wait for me on November 8 at the voting point. Instead, let them market themselves to Ndi Anambra. Why are they so frightened?” he queried.

Moghalu urged his supporters to remain calm, stressing that the ultimate decision lies with the electorate on election day.
