In a bid to promote healthy living among students and instill the value of lifelong wellness, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra Governor, met with teacher representatives from the Healthy Living School Club. The gathering, held at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, sought to foster the club’s mission of cultivating healthy lifestyles in the youth.
Addressing the teacher representatives, affectionately referred to as “Teacher Ambassadors,” Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of ensuring that every student who is part of the club comprehends the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She commended the teachers for their commitment to the project through their voluntary participation and reminded them of the influence they hold as representatives of the initiative.
Selected from various public, private, and mission secondary schools across Anambra State’s six education zones, these Teacher Ambassadors play a crucial role in directing and overseeing the affairs of club members within their respective schools.
Mrs. Soludo stressed the need for the Teacher Ambassadors to effectively communicate and educate their students on the principles of healthy living, encompassing nutrition, physical exercise, environmental care, and staying away from harmful substances such as drugs. The Governor’s wife expressed her passion for promoting healthy living and highlighted the importance of instilling these values in children from a young age, as it would guide their choices throughout life.
Dr. Afam Obidike, the Commissioner for Health, also shared his thoughts during the meeting, underscoring that being part of the Healthy Living School Club carries a great privilege that should be upheld in both character and example. Setting up the clubs in schools, he believed, would raise awareness among members and those they interact with, contributing to a culture of well-being across Anambra State.
Mr. Chigbo Nweke, the team leader of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, lauded the Teacher Ambassadors for volunteering their time and efforts for such a noble cause.
Notable figures present at the event included Mr. Ken Okoli, the National Youth Leader of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), and Dr. Uju Okoye, the Reproductive Health Coordinator for Anambra State, among others.
Having been officially inaugurated a few weeks ago by Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the Healthy Living School Club has already sprung into action. Each Teacher Ambassador has initiated activities in their respective schools, with fifty students from each institution already enlisted as members in the current phase.
The collective efforts of the Governor’s wife, the Teacher Ambassadors, and all those involved promise a brighter and healthier future for the young generation of Anambra State, where healthy living becomes a guiding principle in their lives.
