Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo has appealed to residents of the state especially community leaders and heads of religious institutions, to help with grassroots mobilization to discover and bring out more children living with cleft problems for immediate treatment.
Mrs Soludo stated this in Awka while assessing the programme’s blueprint and results that have been recorded so far since it took effect few weeks ago.
The governor’s wife, who noted that even though she was happy with the number of people that have come forward since programme kicked off, she looked forward to achieving the target the exercise which is to ensure that no child with cleft deformity is left out of the programme.
She explained that adequate publicity and education are paramount to the success of the exercise, and called on leaders of communities, religious and social institutions to help push the advocacy down to the grassroots.
She said that the involvement of crucial stakeholders in both advocacy and mobilization, will give the exercise more momentum in terms of reach, coverage and effectiveness.
While reassuring that she was fully committed to the programme’s success, Mrs Soludo noted that every child in Anambra State with cleft problem must be given adequate treatment.
The Anambra first lady further allayed notions that cleft deformities are not treatable, maintaining that they are hundred percent treatable, with many children already lined up for surgeries which are done free of charge in Anambra State.
