On Monday, January 25, 2021, immediately after her widely celebrated 8th empowerment programme in Awka, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, proceeded to Ajalli in Orumba North LGA to canvass for the support of PDP stakeholders in furtherance to her governorship ambition.
The meeting which was hosted by Chief Okey Enekwe, had in attendance PDP stakeholders in Orumba North as well as other dignitaries. Chief Enekwe is a former elected Chairman of Orumba North LGA and a respected PDP stakeholder.
In his remarks, Chief Enekwe recounted the giant strides of Senator Ekwunife when she was the Chairman House of Representative’s Committee on Environment, by bringing the Federal government’s attention to the Oko and Nanka erosion sites.
The former Council boss said that by the legion of achievements and transcendentals of Ekwunife as a legislator, she is better qualified than others to emerge the next Governor of the State. He therefore pledged his unalloyed support to the Senator.
It is also on record that it was Ekwunife’s contribution as the then Chairman House Committee on Environment that arrested the erosion which was at the verge of cutting off the residence of late Dr. Alex Ekwueme -first elected Vice President of Nigeria- and also the palace of Oko community.
Addressing the gathering, Ekwunife thanked the host for believing in her and expressed deep appreciation to the people that made her last election victory possible. She promised never to disappoint Ndi Anambra if elected the governor.
Speaking further, she stated that Anambra state has gone above politics of gender bias, however, acknowledged the roles of men for women to win elections. She assured that her candidacy will be a partnership that will work. Ekwunife promised that, there would be a tsunami of support around her upon clinching the ticket. “I believe I am the most qualified among other contenders”, she noted.
In his words, the Vice Chairman PDP Anambra South, Chief Emma Ebene, advised that delegates should shun financial inducement and root for an aspirant that can win election for the party. He also said that the party will conduct a free and transparent primary election.
Meanwhile, other stakeholders such as: Mr. Ikechukwu Ezenwankwo, Chief Victor Okpoko and Dr. Rose Nwankwo spoke highly of the Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology. But particularly, Dr. Nwankwo lauded Ekwunife’s quality representation in Anambra Central and said it will be felt in the light of the nation with the emergence of the performing Senator after the November 6 guber election.
Other stakeholders present were Hon Fabian Nwosu (former PDP Chairman Orumba North), Barrister Bright Onuorah amongst others.
