The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for the decentralization of the ongoing 2023 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Direct Entry (DE) registration exercise across Nigeria.
In a statement issued through the office of the Vice President, External Affairs, Comrade Afeez Babatunde Akinteye, the association expressed concern over the restriction placed on the registration of candidates to the offices of JAMB located in state capitals, which it said endangers the lives of applicants due to insecurity and dilapidated roads.
NANS argued that the restriction is a mockery of the numerous ICT infrastructures available in the country, and urged JAMB to utilize ICT centers owned by public tertiary institutions and contract ‘A’ level result verification experts to mount these centers for the swift running of the registration exercise.
The association also extended its condolences to the family of Mahasin Idrees, a JAMB applicant who recently lost her life in a ghastly accident while on her way back to Zaria after a Direct Entry registration exercise in Kaduna.
“We further implore the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede to utilize ICT centres owned by public tertiary institutions and also contract ‘A’ level result verification experts to mount these centres for the swift running of the registration exercise to meet contemporary realities,” the statement added.
