Youths have been urged to embrace the ‘Dobe Anambra Ocha’ Campaign for a clean and healthy Anambra State.
The Member representing Nnewi North Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Honourable Nonso Smart Okafor made the call today, Saturday, 30th January, 2021, at a one – day environmental summit organized by the National Union of Anambra State Students (NUASS) for youths in Awka.
With the theme ‘Operation Ka- Anyi Dobe Anambra State Ocha’, the program was aimed at making youths advocates of healthy and clean environment.
Honourable Okafor who commended the students for the initiative, said that it was in line with the vision of the state government in ensuring a healthy Anambra through the campaign.
Honourable Okafor expressed displeasure at the non- challant attitude of people of the state towards sanitation and urged them to maintain a clean environment as such will attract more progress to the State.
Speaking in an interview, the Deputy Senate President of the union, Comrade Foster Aniegbune who noted that keeping the environment clean is a collective responsibility said that most youths do not understand the need to keep the environment clean as many engage in littering and dumping refuse at strategic places in the state, adding that the program was organized to bring to the awareness of the citizenry the importance of sanitation to avoid environmental health hazards.
Comrade Aniegbunne disclosed that to ensure the initiative was carried out to the letter, the union will embark on a tour of sensitization of the twenty- one local government areas and fifteen tetiary institutions in the state to create more awareness.
Contributing, the Federal Polytechnic Oko Chapter NUASS President, Comrade Jude Nwabunwanne, the National Director of Sports, Comrade Johnmary Nnawuba and the organizing secretary, Comrade Maduabuchi Metu lamented that most youths have neglected the need of keeping their environment clean, adding that the initiative will go a long way in creating more awareness on environmental sanitation.
They urged youths to be more environmental conscious through disposal of wastes and planting of flowers around them to contribute to the beautification of the state.
