Fire incidents are always rampant during the dry season and the need to stay vigilant during this period has been emphasized by Anambra state fire Chief, Mr. Martin Agbili.
The dry season is one of two prominent climate of tropical areas such as Nigeria, the other being the rainy season, the dry season comes with its own peculiarities with a brief period of harmattan occasioned with cold and dusty weather as a result and effects of the Sahara desert.
The season is also remarkable for hot weather, causing severe dryness which most times trigger a lot of illnesses and also notably easily carry and spread fire, making fire incidents incessant during this period.
Speaking on this, the Director of the State Fire Service, Mr. Martins Agbili revelaed that most of the fire incidents during this period are caused by human activities and not mostly due to the climate condition and emphasized that people must take serious precautions in preventing fire incidents.
On ways to effectively curtail fire outbreak during this season, Mr. Agbili adviced people to cut bushes around their houses at least twenty feet away, making sure that gas cylinders are always kept outside, switching off electrics and electronics when not in use to avoid overheating and explosions.
He also reiterated the preparedness of the state fire service to contain fire incidents in any part of the state, admonishing Ndi Anambra to assist the service and not disturb their work by way of attack while on duty and also urging them to have fire fighting items like fire extinguisher and raise alarm when in need.
