The Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike (JP) has commended the Super Falcons of Nigeria for the gritty performance they put up against their Canadian counterparts in the early hours of Friday, at the ongoing FIFA Women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
This was contained in a Press statement, issued by the Office of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports (ONPS), signed by its Chairman, Prince Ajide Olayioye, and made available to newsmen on Friday.
Ejidike described the performance of the ladies as being a strong and fantastic one, against the reigning Olympic Queens, even though they never had an ideal preparation before the tournament. He therefore commended the girls, and charged them to up their game in the next match against one of the hosts – Australia, in order to garner enough points that would see them through to the knockout stage.
He added that, “although, the match ended goalless, I am proud of their performance against the reigning Olympic Champions, as they displayed the “Nigerian Spirit” of “never-say-die” against such an an organised side.
The Sports philanthropist also commended the entire contingent of the team Nigeria, especially the technical crew, urging them to keep their eyes on the ball and maintain their focus, in order for them to be able to do the nation proud, by winning the remaining two group matches, against Australia and Ireland respectively.
The Nnewi-born business mogul says, “Nigeria being the only African country that has appeared in all the nine editions of the FIFA Women World Cup, and the only African country to have made it to the quarter finals, losing narrowly, 4-3 against Brazil in the US 99 edition, I believe the Super Falcons have what it takes to go all the way to the semi finals, this time around.
