Nigeria Police to Put Rivers and Kano Cops on Trial for Assault

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to put on trial three of its officers who were caught on camera assaulting a motorist in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital. Inspector Adejoh Siaka, Inspector Friday Obaka, and Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari were identified as the culprits and are set to face the law.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has sparked public outrage, leading to the arrest of the officers on the orders of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong. The officers were caught on camera, assaulting the victim with sticks and slaps before forcing him into their vehicle.

In a similar development, the NPF also announced the arrest of three police officers who were captured on video firing into the air with pistols and AK-47 rifles while escorting a Kano musician at a ceremony. Sergeants Abdullahi Badamasi, Isah Danladi, and Inspector Dahiru Shuaibu were the officers caught on camera and they reported at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday for trial.

The NPF, through its Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the actions of the officers in both incidents, adding that the conduct does not represent the character of the force. Adejobi said that trial proceedings will commence soon and that the public will be updated as soon as possible.
