The Department of State Security (DSS) and the Attorney General of Federation, has asked Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo of the Federal High Court Abuja to provide them with maximum time following the ongoing Human Rights suit against them by the legal counsel of the leader of Indigenous People Of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The case which was called upon today, the 7th of February, 2022 as led by Barrister Maxwell Opara, before Justice Taiwo O Taiwo at the Federal High Court Abuja, is addressing the following;
“The subjection of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to Solitary Confinement by the DSS”
“Denying him access to his personal Physician”
“Depriving him access to have his religious Materials & time to practice his religion”
“The deprivation of his rights to have private discussion with his lawyers”
“The gross violation of his fundamental Right as enshrined both in the Nigerian constitution and African Charter on Human and People’s rights”.
Appearing before Justice Taiwo, counsel representing the DSS and Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation, pleaded for extra time stating that such is needed to enable them prepare adequately and also filed their own defense.
Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo who granted the plea further adjourned the case to 28th February, 2022.
In company with Barr Mandela Umegborogu and others, Barr Maxwell Opara explained that the case will prove fruitful in the pursuit of the legal team over the legal battle of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
