The Independent National Electroal Commission (INEC), in collaboration with the International Founder of Electoral System, IFES, has organised a-one-day voter education sensitization forum for Anambra youths ahead of the November 6th governorship election in the state.
The event which was held in Awka, attracted representatives of the National Orientation Agency, National Youth Service Corps, youths groups, among others.
The aim of the program was to educate youths on their civic rights and responsibilities in elections, and to empower them to have a voice in governance.
Declaring the event open,The Anambra state Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr Nkwachukwu Orji represented by the Head of Voter Education, Mr Samuel Nimem said youths are the backbone of the country, hence the need for their contribution in decision making and service delivery in their communities.
In his remark, State Director of National Orientation Agency ,Barr Charles Nwoji represented by Deputy Director of the Agency, Sir Joseph Uchenna said with the help of INEC, election must hold in Anambra state in order to elect another representative of the people in government, and urged youths to step down the knowledge they garnered at the event desired toward achieving positive results in the forthcoming election .
The Director, Gender and Inclusive Department of INEC, Mrs Blessing Obidigwe represented by a Deputy Director, Civil Society Organisation CSO, Mrs Dorothy Bello Lakunuya said Voter Education is the key to provision of information and learning experiences to equip and empower citizens to participate in democratic processes, and as well reveals election date, time, and place of voting.
Lending her Voice,State Director National Youth Service Commission ,NYSC, Represented by Assistant Director press &Public Relations of the organization, Mrs Anuli Molokwu said the sensitization program was concerned with concepts basic human and voting rights which is the necessary information to make an informed choice in the polling booth.
On behalf of the representative of youths Groups ,programme Officer, Creative Minds for youths and Community Development , Mr Afunwa Mbamalu thanked INEC and IFES for the knowledge impacted on them, promising that they will participate actively in the November 6th election.
