NYCN, Awka South Takes Campaign Against Drug Abuse, Cultism To Secondary Schools

Determined to add further efforts to the current fight against social vices in Anambra State, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Awka South has started sensitization campaign against cultism and substance abuse in secondary schools across Awka South Local Government Area.

The exercise which kicked off with Igwebuike Grammer School Awka, Holy Cross Secondary School, Umuawulu and Union Secondary School Umuawulu among others, shall be extended to other schools until the target group are comprehensively reached.

Addressing the students at each of the visited schools, the Coordinator of NYCN in Awka South, Comrade Stanley Nkala who maintained that cultsm and drug abuse are hand-in-hand evils, highlighted the their negative effects on both the addicts and society, adding that these are dangerous acts that destroy young people’s future.

Comrade Nkala who showed dismay at the recent rise in the consumption of crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as ‘mkpulu mmili’ among young people, noted that crime cannot thrive in any society that comes out collectively to wage war against cultism and drug abuse.

On his part, the pioneer coordinator of NYCN in Awka South, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwosu, charged teachers to always teach the right morals to the students and advised parents and guardians to always monitor the activities of their children and wards.

In a remark the Principal of Igwebuike Grammer School, Awka, Mr Jovita Arazu and the Vice Principal, Administration of Holy Cross Secondary School, Umuawulu, Mrs Rose Ezenekwe, commended the initiative and assured that the school authority will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the good image and integrity of their institutions are maintained.

In their vote of thanks, the senior prefects of the schools visited, Messers Micheal Nnamani and Divine Precious, promised to be of noble character for themselves and for the future of their communities.

The visitors later shared exercise books to the students.
