We open this discussion with the meaning of the title, especially for the non-Igbo speaking people who reside in Anambra State and need voter education to participate during the next election. The assumption is that all Igbo people know the meaning as a tonic for action, but it needs to be further elaborated, polished and anchored for our purpose at this material time.

‘Oge Elugo’ means the time is now! The entrant of that phrase into the political lexicon of the politics of Anambra State is germane and associated with the one whose name daily wears more accolades with lofty achievements. It is a loaded and deep phrase.

It is a call for diligence and capacity for service with the eyes on the ball, targeting the goal. It is an attitude for unbridled focus rooted contextually in Igbo tradition, tempo industry, determination, dexterity and resourcefulness. It is where the qualities of one’s manhood, literally speaking, are measured and decided on the arena of performance; where consistency, intelligence and experience must of necessity separate pretenders from performers.

We saw those precepts deep in Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart”, a thorough reading in Igbo socio-cultural attributes and the superlative narrative structure, that underlines the eminence of Igbo people. It is a propeller for many things. But the ‘now’ in ‘Oge Elugo’ in this context, says more about the moments and the main discussions in Anambra State of today – which is the process to produce the next Executive Governor. It is about the one with verifiable track records; the one who has been prepared to serve over the years; the one who has served in at least twelve strategic committees in the National Assembly and brought home veritable grass root projects to his constituency and beyond. Oge Elugo is not just an open call to anybody, it is the sound of a gong for all to listen up in Igbo mythology.

We all know that Anambra State needs to be retrofitted and put once more on the path of glory, to reposition her as the home for all, and the light of the nation; a light that currently is unfortunately dim to blinks and flickers since the past seven years. But the search is no longer going too far, as all lights beam up on the doorstep of one person; the one on the lips of all to help out. He is Engr Chris Azubogu, the IfeanyiChukwu Nnewi… Mr Project.
