Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reaffirmed her stand on the political zoning arrangement of gubernatorial position of Anambra State and to restate its support that Anambra South Senatorial district should produce the next governor of the State.
Ọhaneze Ndigbo made the reaffirmation at a town hall meeting held at Anaedo Hall, Nnewi today.
The Igbo apex socio-cultural group represents all Igbo communities at home and in the diaspora.
The National Vice President of the organisation, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene at the event reminded the citizens of the summit held in 2017 where it was agreed that the state governorship elections will zoned.
He stressed zoning will entrench equity and harmony in Anambra state.
Chief Okeke-Ogene urged governorship aspirants to have spirit of sportsmanship to enable free and fair election.
He also commended Governor Willie Obiano for his cooperation and commitment in the betterment of Anambra and for sticking to zoning arrangement in the state.
Anambra State President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prince Emeka Udodeme highlighted need for zoning which he said will certainly reduce the cost of election in the state.
Governorship aspirants from across the political parties in the State attended the town hall meeting.
Some of those who attended include: Barrister Winston Udeh, Hon. Chuma Nzeribe, Mr Walter Okeke, Mr Emeka Etiaba, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah represented by Chief Charles Agu-Onyeka, Mr Valentine Ozigbo represented by Chief Godwin Ezenwaka, Dr. Godwin Maduka, who represented by Chief Josephat Ezeh, Hon Chris Azubogu, represented by Hon Ejim Ucheagwu among others.
Two of the aspirants who spoke to the newsmen immediately after the event including Chief Rommy Okoli of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA and Lady Chidi Onyemelukwe of the People Democratic Party PDP thanked Ohaneze Ndigbo for standing firm on the Zoning formula which will bring harmony to the state.
Traditional rulers from Anambra South Senatorial District led by Igwe Kenneth Orizu of Nnewi who is also the grand gatron Anambra state Traditional Rulers Council, executive members of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Towns union executives, community stakeholders were also present at the meeting.
Also in attendance was first female Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba.
