A pastor identified as Timothy Otu has been taken into custody by the Abia State Police Command in relation to the mysterious death of a 43-year-old woman, Happiness Echieze. The incident occurred at a hotel in Ovom village on August 12, 2023. Otu, who is associated with the Agape Evangelical Ministry located at the Obikabia Junction in the Obingwa Local Government Area of the state, is cooperating with authorities as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s demise.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, revealed this development in a statement released on Thursday. According to the PPRO, Otu and the woman had checked into the hotel at approximately 9:23 pm on the fateful evening. Tragically, the lifeless body of Happiness Echieze was discovered in the hotel room around midnight, devoid of clothing, and emitting an unidentified white substance from her mouth and nose. Disturbingly, the pastor was conspicuously absent from the scene.
Godwin Akpan, a resident at Jubilee Guest House in Ovom Village, Obingwa Local Government Area, reported the incident to the Isialangwa Police Division on August 13, 2023. Akpan recounted the details of the evening and reported the unsettling discovery he made in the hotel room. As a result, preliminary investigations were promptly launched into the matter.
In response to the case, the police have taken several actions. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the SDA Mortuary in Aba, where it awaits an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Additionally, Timothy Otu, the pastor linked to the incident, has been apprehended and is now in custody.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough and discreet investigation. Authorities are striving to uncover the truth behind the woman’s tragic death, and the community remains in shock as details of this unsettling incident continue to emerge.
