The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have cautioned President Bola Tinubu against engaging in any military intervention in Niger Republic concerning the recent coup that ousted President Muhammed Bazoum. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government had issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Nigerien military to restore constitutional order and reinstate the deposed President Bazoum, which expires today.
Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, conveyed the party’s stance after a meeting attended by the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, and other stakeholders. They emphasized the importance of employing dialogue and diplomacy, urging the Nigerian government not to resort to war with Niger Republic.
During the meeting, the stakeholders also stressed the need for party discipline and reiterated their commitment to uphold unity, warning against any form of sabotage or anti-party activities.
Furthermore, the PDP leaders expressed their dedication to repositioning and stabilizing the party, assuring members of their loyalty and unity by rewarding them. They voiced unwavering support for the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his vice-presidential candidate, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, in their quest to challenge the allegedly stolen mandate at the tribunal and promised to work together at state and national levels to ensure good governance, transparency, and accountability.
