Police in Jigawa Arrest HIV victim, four others for raping 14 years old girl

The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended five suspected rapists, one of whom is an HIV patient, for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the state. The arrest was confirmed by Police spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who issued a statement to DAILY POST.

The suspects were caught on Friday at Yola Quarters, Jahun Local Government Area, following a report from the victim’s father, stating that his 14-year-old daughter was raped while selling Awara.

As per the investigation, one of the suspects, Aliyu Sani, enticed the victim into Rabiu Ibrahim’s room, where they both committed the heinous act.

Furthermore, other suspects, Idris Haruna, Rabiu Inuwa, and Hussaini Mato, all from Jahun town, also engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim multiple times at different dates, places, and times.

After the arrests, the suspects and the victim underwent medical examination at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre Dutse (SARC Dutse). Disturbingly, one of the suspects was confirmed to be HIV positive, while another tested positive for hepatitis. Fortunately, the victim, so far, tested negative for these diseases. However, she will be retested three months later after the incubation period to ascertain her health condition.

The arrested suspects will face potential prosecution as they will be arraigned in court for their alleged crimes. This incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of young girls in the region.
