Professor George Obiozo over the weekend emerged the new President General of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, the apex Igbo social-cultural organisation. He scored 304 votes being the highest number of valid votes to defeat five other contestants.
He takes over from John Nnia Nwodo at a time that Ndigbo are looking for credible leadership and direction towards solving many of the social, political, cultural and economic challenges confronting them in Nigeria.
The election which held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Imo State was controversial as some contestants for the top job pulled out of the race at the last minute alleging candidate imposition.
Professor Obiozo is a former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States and one time Director-General Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, NIIA.
Some Ndigbo believe that the issue of Igbo Presidency should be top on the agenda of the new Ohaneze leadership, while others think that restructuring of the country Nigeria should be prioritised.
What agenda should Professor Obiozo and his executive pursue for Ndigbo?
