Read Sen Uche Ekwunife’s Speech After The 11th Empowerment Programme

On Friday, April 9, 2021, to the glory of God, we held our 11th empowerment programme since we assumed office in June 2019.

Speaking to journalists shortly after I oversaw the distribution of gas cookers and cash grants to the beneficiaries which numbered upto 400, I noted that representation is about impacting positively on the lives of the people. I reiterated that the need to address the yearnings of the people should be the major reason for seeking public office, and assured that I will continue to work towards ameriorating the challenges facing the people.

Speaking further, I stated that youth unemployment remains one of the greatest challenges of the society, this is why facilitation of employment and skills acquisition training for women and youths remain top on my priority. I urged citizens in positions of influence or authority to commit energy, time and resources towards addressing the menace.

My bill seeking to amend the Nigerian Investment Promotion Act to make provision for adequate protection of micro, small and medium enterprises, and shield them from unfair competition is progressing in the Senate. Hopefully when passed, the bill will provide the necessary legislative framework that will improve the growth of small and medium scale enterprises.

I highlighted my efforts in assisting constituents to access the federal government’s social intervention funds which many have benefitted from. Some of the funds receieved by beneficiaries ranged from N700,000 to N5 million. I equally encouraged those who applied but are yet to be credited to be patient. My laision office is open on a daily basis to assist interested constituents.

Education is the surest way to end ignorance and eradicate poverty, this is why we have given many schools in our district facelifts through the projects we attracted. It is my belief that, quality education will steer the youths from social vices and empower them to be logical thinkers and solution providers in the society.

I assured that the empowerment will be continous considering the need to affect the lives of as many constituents as possible.
