Rising Gym Costs Prompt Women to Opt for Hips and Butt Pads for Curvy Looks

The rising cost of goods and services has prompted a shift in women’s beauty routines, leading to changes in cosmetic practices and body enhancement.

This shift encompasses a range of beauty changes, from facial surgeries and artificial make-up to opting for a natural look altogether.

Additionally, there has been a noticeable trend towards procedures like liposuction, hips, and butt enlargement, which come with hefty price tags and potential risks.

To counter these expenses and risks, many women are turning to alternative methods such as dieting and exercise routines, although the high costs associated with gym memberships and classes pose challenges.

In light of these financial constraints, women are seeking budget-friendly options to achieve an elegant and curvy appearance.

Interestingly, a growing number of dressmakers are incorporating hip and butt pads, along with corsets, into gowns to enhance women’s body shapes and figures.

While this practice may give the illusion of natural bodily features, it’s important to note that these enhancements are achieved through padding.

Mrs. Motunrayo Sholanke, a stockbroker, emphasized the significant increase in gym expenses, with monthly costs soaring from N10,000 to N20,000 in the past to N50,000 to N55,000 in the present due to economic changes and rising maintenance fees.

Sholanke explained that she now adds pads to her gowns to achieve the desired hourglass figure, as this option is more affordable and time-efficient.

Mr. Frederick Balogun, a gym instructor, confirmed the rising gym costs, attributing the increase to maintenance expenses, electricity bills, rent, and equipment costs.

He noted that these elevated prices have led some women to explore online fitness resources, like YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram, or turn to artificial body enhancers.

Fabric seller Mrs. Ajike Afolabi emphasized the shift away from cosmetic surgeries and towards using hips and butt pads in gowns to achieve a curvy appearance.

Afolabi cautioned against risky procedures and advised against them, advocating for safer alternatives such as pads.

Fashion designer Miss. Folashade Akinwinmi observed a growing demand for hips and butt padding among her female clientele due to the increased cost of beauty-related practices.

She explained that these foam-like pads, which can be added to garments for a figure-eight shape, offer a cost-effective way to achieve elegance and confidence.

It’s worth noting that the use of pads may be limited by the garment’s material and design, potentially incurring additional sewing costs.
