Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji has qualified as one of the two schools to represent Nigeria at the 2022 SAGE World Cup holding in Netherlands later in August.

This is after they took the overall second position at this year’s National School Entrepreneurship Exhibition and Awards.
The national entrepreneurship contest held at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State is organized every year by SAGE, Nigeria.

SAGE Nigeria is a branch of the global organization, Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship, SAGE, with the vision to discover, raise and mentor a new set of entrepreneurial leaders whose innovations and social enterprise will address the major needs of their communities and the world at large.

The overall first position went to the students of Homat Group of Schools, Lagos State, who developed MED-SET, an innovation that can help to curb irresponsible self-medication using USSD Code or Mobile App while students of Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji came second with a project called LITE – UP, a portable hydro-electric dam that converts salt water or urine into electricity and stores them.

Another School from Anambra, Divine Rays British School, Obosi came third with a project termed, “GEO-Green” , a battery that extracts Carbon (IV) Oxide from incinerators and auto-mobile engines, and then converts it to electricity thereby preventing environmental pollution.

Speaking at the event, former President Olusegun Obasanjo who is also the chief host of the event encouraged the participants to hold on to the tenets of hard work, determination and service to God and humanity and emphasized that education and good moral upbringing are the two pillars upon which a life of success is built.

Meanwhile, the schools that came first and second: Homat Group of Schools, Lagos and Mater Amabilis Secondary Umuoji respectively are qualified to represent Nigeria at the SAGE World Cup.

Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji has, therefore, become the first school from the South-East to make it to the global stage of the competition.
