Two female voters who participated in Saturday’s supplementary elections in Kebbi State claimed that the All Progressive Congress (APC) gave them N3,000, two wrappers, and packs of pasta for voting for the party.
Speaking in Hausa with Channels TV, one of the women described the APC as “the broom” party and alleged that the party gave her and others the same bribes for voting. The voters made the claims at the Baban Dutsi Model Primary School which has three polling units, namely Karyo, Umijin Nana, and Baban Dutsi.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared some governorship, National Assembly, and state assemblies’ polls inconclusive during the February 25 and March 18 elections due to widespread violence, voter suppression, and inducement.
The APC polled 388,258 votes in Kebbi as against the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 342,980, leading the Returning Officer, Professor Yusuf Sa’idu, to declare the election inconclusive due to violence, destruction of election materials, disruption of electoral proceedings, and over-voting.
