The Enugu State Election Petition Tribunal has received a total of 46 petitions from candidates who are dissatisfied with the outcome of the 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections.
According to the Secretary to the Tribunal, Yusuf Folmi, 38 of the petitions were filed by legislative candidates while the remaining eight were from governorship candidates and political parties who are challenging the declaration of Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the governorship election.
Among those challenging Mbah’s victory are candidates from the Labour Party (LP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Action Alliance (AA), and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The AA and Action Peoples Party (ACP) are also contesting Mbah’s victory.
Some of the legislative candidates who filed petitions challenging the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their constituencies include Onyeabor Ngwu of the Labour Party for Igbo Etiti East, Agbo Amadi of the PDP for Nsukka West, Charles Ugwu of the PDP for Igbo Etiti East, and Okwudili Nnaji of the Labour Party for Nkanu East.
