See When National Assembly Will Begin Two-Month Break

The National Assembly will on Thursday proceed on its two-month annual recess ahead of the last lap of the 9th Assembly.

The Assembly had clocked three years on June 11, 2022, shortly before the lawmakers embarked on a two-week Sallah break.

At resumption of plenary on Tuesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, said the lawmakers would proceed on their annual break on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers suspended legislative activities till Wednesday (today) in honour of a member of the House, Jude Ise-Idehen, who died during the break.

It is the tradition of the National Assembly that both the Senate and the House suspend sitting on the first legislative day after a member of either chamber dies.

Until his death on July 1, 2022, at the age of 52, Ise-Idehen, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, represented Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency in Edo State.

Gbajabiamila, in his brief opening remarks, noted that the adjournment was customary.

He said, “As it is customary, honourable colleagues, we will not be taking any business today out of respect for our colleague. The House will be closing on Thursday.”

The House immediately adjourned sitting till Wednesday.
