Senate Urges Urgent Action to Halt Diphtheria Spread in Nigeria

The Nigerian Senate has called on relevant health agencies and the federal government to take immediate action in halting the spread of Diphtheria in the country.

The motion was raised following an outbreak of the airborne disease in Kaduna, resulting in several deaths.

The Senate urged increased funding for vaccine production and distribution to effectively combat communicable diseases.

Additionally, a nationwide vaccination campaign was mandated, and agencies were instructed to intensify contact-tracing efforts in collaboration with neighboring states.

The highly contagious nature of the disease requires swift and concerted efforts to prevent further devastation, especially in rural communities with poor living conditions.
