Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has inspected a solar-powered water scheme for civil servants in Awka.
The scheme, which was renovated by the Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources, is located at the Senior Civil Servants Estate, Awka.
The 10,000-gallon PVC tank has a capacity of 45,000 cubic metres and will supply water at zero cost to residents of the estate.
Speaking after the inspection, Governor Soludo who was represented by the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka said the scheme was part of the Governor’s commitment to providing affordable and reliable water to the people of Anambra State.
He stated that the solar-powered water scheme is just one of the many projects that Governor Soludo is undertaking to improve access to water in the state.
Engr. Julius, said that the scheme was designed to be sustainable and would require minimal maintenance.
“The only maintenance that will be required for this scheme is tap issues,” he said.
“As long as there is sun, there will be power to pump water at zero cost.”
“The solar-powered water scheme is a welcome development for the people of Awka and a sign of the Governor’s commitment at improving the lives of the people of Anambra State,” he said.
Earlier, the Head of Service, Barr. Theodora Igwegbe, stated that their mission was just to inspect, to see what the Contractor had done and to also verify from residents how water has been reticulated.
She thanked Governor Soludo for reviving the water facility that had been inactive for many years.
The Head of Service revealed that the facility will serve 40 homes in the estate, each with a three-bedroom apartment.
On his part, the Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, who resides in the Estate, confirmed that water has been reticulated to all properties and is operational, just as the Chairman of the Senior Civil Servants Estate, Mr. Obi Anthony Ikechukwu, thanked Soludo for the project and said that it would improve the quality of life for residents of the estate.
