The 12 Igwes have apologised to gov Obiano. But the apology is yet to be accepted or refused.
I wouldn’t want to bore you with what transpired and how they were lured into the office where an apology was tendered unintentionally, because an apology is an apology whether coerced or not.
It has been about two weeks that Igwe Alor, HRH Mac-Anthony Elibe Okonkwo openly apologised to the governor. But nothing has been heard from Agu Awka in response to the apology.
The biggest problem with the apology is that in most of these communities like Alor, Abacha etc, those who were in opposition with the affected traditional rulers are mounting pressure for the suspension to be converted to outright sack.
They are already presenting replacements and putting pressure on the governor to recognise their choice and issue them with Staff of Office.
In Alor for instance, the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige is leading the opposition against Igwe Elibe Okonkwo. With the new political love between Ngige and gov Obiano, it is going to be very difficult for the governor to take decision either way.
If he forgives Igwe Okonkwo and reverses his suspension, the governor will offend Ngige. If he follows the pressure from Ngige and sacks Igwe Elibe, it means that the apology tendered by Igwe Elibe is needless.
It is the same in Aguleri-Otu, Abacha, Nawfia and other communities whose Igwes were suspended and the opposition is insisting on outright sack.
It is actually a difficult time for both the governor and the suspended Igwes.
The 12 Igwes are now in between the red sea. It is difficult to cross. They tendered an apology without consulting Engr Arthur Eze. If the apology is not accepted, they will not return to the Ukpo billionaire.
It is a difficult time indeed.
