Determined to solve the issue of incessant operation and activities under the TCN high tension right of way, Anambra state government delegation paid a visit to Old Motor Spare Parts Market, Mgbuka, Obosi, where they were conducted round the areas obstructing TCN power lines.
The Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, Executive Chairman of Anambra state Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe, a representative of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, as well as executive members of the market were part of the visit round the affected areas.
On arrival, it was observed that there were areas and shops already marked as obstruction by the TCN since last year.
Speaking after being conducted round the affected areas, Commissioner Okafor said that having assessed the situation real time, the state government will go back to the drawing board and chart the next line of action, saying that whatever will be done, will be a gradual process.
As for Barrister Maduekwe, he said that it is dangerous to trade under the high tension line because of the health and life threatening risks, stressing that notes will be compared to factor lasting solution.
The team thereafter went into a closed door meeting with the market stakeholders.
Recall that recently, a team from the regional office of the Transmission company of Nigeria, Enugu, visited concerned authorities in the state and complained about ongoing commercial activities under the three hundred and thirty KVA line, Mgbuka Market, Obosi, as well as other areas.
During their visit, they made a presentation to government on the inherent dangers and risks of operating close to the power lines, was made bare, with relocation of the operators advocated.
They opined that whatever operation that should happen around the high tension, should be nothing less than twenty five meters away from the middle of the power lines, at both ends.
